There’s Always Next Year

All things have to come to an end.

After an up and down season filled with injuries, victories, and losses, the 2014 Charger football season comes to a close.

The season came to a close when they faced off against John Hardin High School and took a loss. The Chargers had a record of 7-4, while being 2-1 in their district while under some heavy circumstances. As this season comes to end, the goals wash away with it.

On November 2nd, the Chargers looked to face John Hardin at home for the first round of the KHSAA football tournament. They took a heartbreaking defeat as they lost 24-6. The running game did not pan out as they ran for 54 yards on 31 carries. The offense got stopped at the goal line once and fumbled the ball twice which led for touchdowns. It was a bad night at the wrong time.

The Chargers had their ups and downs this year with their schedule and their roster, but still were able to a pull out big wins. They gained victories over teams such as Nelson County, Waggener, Spencer County, Oldham County, North Bullitt, Shelby County, and Fairdale. The four losses came from Boyle County, Central Hardin, Bullitt Central, and John Hardin. Throughout the year the team was led by multiple players including seniors Pierce Kelly, Robert Hartley, Austin Colvin, Sam Lowe, Trent Meredith, Nick Cooper, Shane Satori, and Austin Flood. Injuries had a huge affect on the year and changes in player positions. Having gone through three quarterback changes throughout the year, there were some offensive transitions being fixed with the switch from Pierce Kelly to Konnor Polson, then back to Kelly due to a severe shoulder injury of Polson’s.

Coming into this season from a good playoff run last year, the goal was to work as team and to dig deeper into the playoffs than they did last year. Though they didn’t achieve this goal, they were still successful under their circumstances.

Head coach Darrell Vincent said, ” We didn’t finish where we wanted, but I think we were successful considering the injuries we had.”

With having to approve on the depth of the team with the leave of seniors on hand, the team will also need to improve in the physicality aspect of next year. So look forward to new starters and playmakers next year as the Chargers look to mold another successful season.
