After rain comes shine.

The baseball team kicks off their season after rain cancelled many games.

Originally, the Chargers were supposed to start the season on Friday, March 13th, but the weather created an obstacle. After a busy opening week, beginning March 16th, the boys realized what they still needed to work on. The team has yet another busy week coming up with five games, two on Friday, March 27th.

With all the rain Mount Washington had, the season had to be put on hold. On March 13th and 14th, the varsity team planned on facing Collins and Doss, but mother nature had other plans. Both games got completely rained out. The only bright part of this situation is that the team had more time to prepare for their first official game against DeSales High School. They had a great opening game, defeating the Colts 3-2. Derrick Kromenacker led the team with a walk-off homerun.

With the ups, there come the downs. The team fell short on Tuesday, March 17th, to Saint Xavier, losing 12-0. This made the team realize what they still needed to really work on.

Zach Jones, varsity baseball player, said, “We really need to hit the ball more and reduce the amount of strikeouts we have.”

This coming week, March 23rd, the varsity team will have five games: South Oldham, Bullitt Central, Holy Cross, Whitefield Academy, and Elizabethtown. The boys leave this week with a 3-2 record.
