Don’t Rush To Extremes

Vivian Atieh is an 18 year old senior at Bullitt East. She is another charger here in Charger Nation.

Atieh is a Muslim student at Bullitt East. Her religion plays a key role in her daily life. Her biggest goals in life are to become a doctor and teach others about Islam.

Vivian started school at BE her freshman year; although, she left during her sophomore year and returned her senior year. She has to make up more than 6 credits all while finishing her senior project.

“I have to work harder than normal to finish all my credits before May. I have a class where I catch up for periods a day,” said Atieh.

Inside school walls, Atieh can’t escape her younger brother, Tareq, who is a sophomore. “I don’t see him often but I hear about every little thing he does, even if he thinks I don’t,” claimed Atieh.

Atieh’s culture affects her life inside and outside of school. She has to pray five times a day, but since she can’t pray at school she has to find time to squeeze them in. She chooses not to wear the normal Muslim clothing.

Atieh has two main goals in life. She wants to become a sonographer, an administer of ultrasounds. However she doesn’t want to only focus on mothers carrying children but with other parts of the body too.

“My other goal is to teach other Americans that not all Muslims are extremists. I’m not a bad person, I don’t understand why people would hold my religion against me, when I don’t hold their religion against them,” said Atieh.
