Intramural Sports Leagues

Kicking off the season.

The intramurals league has begun with a kickball league!

Intramural sports are unofficial sports for students that don’t require the same level of competition as a regular official school sport like the football or basketball teams. This year, the pilot program for the intramural sports leagues that Bullitt East hopes to launch is a kickball league run through the house program. In the future there is plans to launch more leagues.

Junior and Senior English teacher, Leo Craven started the program by going to April Walker and proposing the idea. “At my high school, we had intramurals and I thought it was so much fun for people to have the opportunity to play sports that didn’t want to dedicate their lives to playing a sport for high school.” said Craven.

Craven also said that when he taught in Lexington, his students really enjoyed intramurals. “I want to make this a normal thing at Bullitt East.” said Craven.

While Kickball is the just the start of intramurals, Craven hopes to add more sports to the list. “I want to do kickball, I want to do ultimate frizzbie, I want to do basketball, there’s other things I want to do, we just have to start with one.”this-one

During the debut of the kickball league, all that played seemed to have fun. The faculty even formed their own team to play against students. Two games had to be canceled because some of the players didn’t show up, but that didn’t stop anyone from having a blast. “The kids that came had a good time, we just need more involvement.” said Craven.

Junior, Haley Faulkner represents the intramural sports leagues in congress. “I wanted to be more involved in my house,” said Faulkner.

Craven has asked the student body if there is anything that he can do to improve the experience of intramural sports. You can tweet at @BELivewire, or email Craven at [email protected] with suggestions.
