Becoming an Archery Team United

Even with receiving both first and third place this weekend, the archery team still has some room for improvement.

The team really focused on their nerves this tournament, which seemed to have worked. On the flipside, the archery team still needs to work on their attitude and team togetherness. In preparation for their next tournament, the members need to devote some personal time to improving their skills.

This weekend the team was once again split into two teams, team one and team two. Team one took home first place while team two received third place.

Being a team that calls just ten minutes down the road “home”, the whole archery team is really familiar with the atmosphere at Eastside Middle. Senior archer Emily Yoakum said, “…the team is definitely comfortable at Eastside, we shoot there a lot for tournaments, so I think that calmed some people’s nerves. I don’t really know who shot the highest, but I know as a team [we] shot our lowest score of the season.”

Following this, the team needs to work on a few performance aspects before their next tournament at Bullitt Central. Yoakum said, “We need to work on our spirit as a team and become more unified. We also need to work on our seriousness at practice, a lot of the time there’s just a lot of goofing off.”

To prepare for their next meet, and to fix the minor issues the team has, Yoakum said, “Everyone could practice more at home and not get too anxious when the actual tournament comes around. Everyone should take practice seriously too.”

When you’re working in a large group of people, it’s important that everyone contributes. In this case, if the archery members all buckle down and take practice seriously and relaxes like Yoakum suggested, the team will show immense improvement.
