March Power Rankings

Tyler Steinmetz, Staff Writer

.San Antonio Spurs- The Spurs have been a solid team for a really long time. Maybe because Gregg Popovich is such an amazing coach or maybe because his gm just knows what he’s doing. The Spurs have always been the best “team”. Although they have Kawhi Leonard and Lamarcus Aldridge, who are both stars, they work the best overall as a team and that is why they’re so successful.

.Cleveland Cavaliers- Thanks to Lebron James, the Cavs are the best team in the Eastern Conference. They are very beatable in the regular season, but when it comes to the postseason it is near impossible. Last year during the playoffs, the Cavs only lost a total of 5 games. All to two of the top five teams in the league.

.Houston Rockets- James Harden has stepped up his game majorly. From an okay point guard who was only a scorer to an all around superstar almost averaging a triple double and leading the MVP race. Lets just say if it was not for James Harden, the Rockets would not even be in the conversation.

.Washington Wizards- The Wizards are slowly sneaking up in the league. With the backcourt of John Wall and Bradley Beal and Marcin Gortat as their 7 foot paint protector, they pretty much have it all. John Wall is pretty much the most explosive player in the league behind Russell Westbrook. With his speed and ability to get to the rim and Bradley Beal’s ability to shoot the three, that’s hard to stop.

.Boston Celtics- The Celtics have definitely stepped up their game, getting Al Horford in the offseason and drafting Jaylen Brown. Plus, Isaiah Thomas being second in scoring probably helps a little bit. His 4th quarter scoring fanatics are like the only reason they ever win. But I just don’t think they deserve to be above the hard working Wizards.

.Golden State Warriors- Without KD the Warriors have lost 5 of their last 7 games. If he doesn’t come back soon they will not be in the top 10. Also I think unless Steph and/or Klay has a breakout rest of the season and are contenders for the MVP race, they will not make it far in the postseason.

.Toronto Raptors- With Kyle Lowry back in full swing and Demar DeRozan being Demar DeRozan, the Raptors have potential to make a deep playoff run. However they don’t have the bigs to win a championship and there is no way they can stop Lebron.

.Los Angeles Clippers- Unfortunately, the Clips are at the peak of their franchise career but can’t seem to get over the “dominant” hump. They have three super stars and an amazing coach who has won multiple NBA titles. I’m not sure why they aren’t better than they are but all I’m saying is that they aren’t going to win any NBA titles anytime soon.

.Utah Jazz- The Jazz are a young strong team that include assets like Rodney Hood, Gordon Hayward, and Rudy Gobert. Gobert is leading the NBA in blocks which steps up their defense which is important in the NBA. There bench is pretty impressive too with Dante Exum, Joe Johnson, Trey Lyles, and Alec Burks.

.Memphis Grizzlies- Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph are a pretty good frontcourt. Along with Mike Conley and Andrew Harrison as their backcourt. Mike Conley is a decent point guard but can not lead them anywhere in the postseason. Their matchup in the postseason will be either the spurs or Warriors and they have chance whatsoever against either team.
