Girls Golf Season Recap

Golf is a chip away from coming to a close.

The girls golf team has completed their regular season and are on their way to regionals.

Golfers that competed this year are seventh grader, Macie Brown, freshman, Mackenzie Cook, junior, Alyssa Shepherd, and seventh grader, Alayna Wells. The girls completed their season by going 0-2 in their regular season matches. Brown, Cook, and Shepherd competed in 5 tournaments total.

Brown’s abilities have been in full swing this season. Brown led the team in all competitions. Her lowest score of the season is a 36 in the Two County Cup. At this match, Bullitt East lost 12-4 to Nelson County but Brown scored three of the four points scored by Bullitt County and was the leader all throughout.

The girls only participated in three matches as a full team. Both were against Spencer County. Unfortunately, the girls were not able to come out with a win in either of the matches. In the first match, Brown shot a 37. Freshman, Mackenzie Cook, finished with a 57, and Junior, Alyssa Shepherd, shot a 63. In their second match, Brown finished with another 37, Cook with a 50 and Shepherd with a 58.

Next up for the girls is regionals, where Macie Brown is expected to be a top contender. “If she goes out and plays to her full potential, she has a chance to win our region,” said Coach Larry Steinmetz.

If Brown is able to place in the top four in the region, she will move on to state. Brown believes in herself to make it to state to which she said, “I am very capable of competing at that level.”

The Chargers will post a team score in regionals for the first time since 2015. There will be individual scores as well.
