The Falling Of The Patriots?

From the top to the bottom, just like that.

Raining super bowl champs, the New England Patriots lose the  opening game to the Kansas City Chiefs despite being favored by more than seven points, putting the Patriots third in the AFC East.

Many are in shock due to the unexpected start. The Patriots began the year being the highest predicted rank in the NFL. They had high hopes as their new running back had a great first game. The PAtriots have had sub-par defense this season as many blaming this to be the cause to them losing.

High expectations are set on the Patriots just about every year, “Winning a division title in the weak AFC East seems almost like being given a bye into the second round of the playoffs,” said Ron Borges on Boston Herald Radio. His preseason predictions have the patriots starting strong and finishing with a twelve win and four loss season. With one loss already recorded and the four predicted losses still to come, the four loss record could be in jeopardy.

A huge part of the loss came from the defense, “It was tough watching, they couldn’t seem to take a stand,” said sophomore Nathan Thomas. 42 points is the most points given up by the patriots since head coach Bill Belichick became coach in 2000. “I felt like every time I looked at the television, Alex Smith (quarterback for Kansas City) was making a big play,” said Thomas.

“The loss was bad, but we got a beast in the making.” said sophomore football player and patriots fan Max Gauthier on Patriots new running back, Mike Gillislee. Gillislee finished the game with all three of the Patriots touchdown. “I can see him being a future pro bowl running back.” said Gauthier. Gauthier has been a fan of the Patriots for six seasons now and is starting to worry about his team. “I’m not sure about the patriots this year, starting to scout new team,” said Gauthier.

Despite an early loss it’s still very early in the season,“There’s still a lot of season to be played and chances to turn the season around, but that early loss has them rolling in the wrong direction.” says sophomore Isaiah Mahoney. Mahoney is pretty confident the Patriots can finish with at least a ten win and six loss record and finishing second or third in the AFC East.
