The last run of the season is a good one.

Making it to state, members of the XC team work for their best times of the season.

On Saturday Nov. 4, the East cross-country team traveled to Lexington, Kentucky to run in the KHSAA State meet held at the New Horse Park. The Class AAA girls began their run starting 1:30 p.m. followed by the Class AAA boys who started at 2:15 p.m. Gates for spectators opened at 8 a.m.

Not everyone on the team were able to compete at State. To qualify, members had to finish their run at region fast and efficiently. Most of the team came to this meet, if not to run, to cheer on their fellow teammates. “I enjoyed being on the team this year watching the team improve as a whole. I was glad to be able to support my teammates that were able to compete in the state meet this year,” said junior Cole Davenport.

Top boy on the team was junior Josh Wetzel with placing 211 out of 276 runners total. He completed his 5k run with a clock in time of 18:55:93. Next on the team was junior Blake Hourigan with a place of 254, ending his season run with a time of 19:30:79. Freshman Camden Bohannon was next on the team with a place of 266 and a clock in time of 19:57.17.

All members on the boys team performed very well Saturday at the state meet.

After a nice run at state Wetzel speaks to his season as a whole, and expresses his goals for the future. “This season, I’ve hit numerous goals, I’ve crushed my seasons best, and I’ve really learned how to fight through physical and mental barriers this season. For the future, I am just going to go hard at track, track season is going to start here soon and I really hope to break some records. For the next cross-country season, were going to have a lot more good people coming up from middle school, and were hoping that we’re going to have a great team, and really make a statement here at state,” said Wetzel.

Top girl on the team was freshman Emily Tinelli placing 115 out of 276 total runners. She ened her 5k run this season with a clock in time of 22:09.83. Next on the team was freshman Abby Troutman with a clock in time of 22:25.47 and a place of 191. Then was junior Lindsey Spencer placing 241 with a time of 24:48.84. Next in the team was junior Abigail Clarkson as she ended her run with a place of 253 and a time of 25:21.59. Then was senior Marie Spatzenegger in place 261 with a time of 25:58.31.

Overall the girls team placed 34 with an average time of 24:20:81.

Both teams at East performed very well Saturday at state and will end their season with a banquet on held in the library at school. The date and time of this event has yet to be announced.

Closing the season, the team looks forward to next year and all the their opportunities for the future.
