Prom night becomes even more magical in a crown.

Prom was last Saturday and the annual crowning of the prom queen and king took place.

The nominations for the 2018 prom court were announced halfway through the night. Only juniors were allowed to vote for prince and princess and only seniors were allowed to vote for queen and king. The ballot is decided through teachers’ nominations.

Nominations for king were Gunner Mahoney, Sean Woods, Clay Williams, William Smith, and Juan Zambrano. Nominations for queen were Avery Pack, Madyson Foreman, Ashlie Gauthier, Lindsay Brock, and Erika Bolton.

After a 10 minute voting period, the court was announced. Ashlie Gauthier was crowned senior queen and Clay Williams was crowned king. “It was really surprising. I didn’t really know what to think honestly,” said Gauthier on winning. Both she and Williams were with their friends when the announcement was made, and everyone was excited.

The annual slow dance took place to Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect”, but the winners received their crowns together and went their own ways for the dance. “We didn’t dance together which was really funny. We just exchanged a look and a laugh and split up to dance with our friends,” said Gauthier.

In addition to the queen and king, the junior prince and princess were crowned as well. Haylee Miles was voted princess and Ty Hawkins was voted Prince.
