East has been working as a team to reach their goals.

Coming close to the end of the track and field season, the team buckles down and gets to work.

After a successful beginning to the season, runners work hard to improve, preparing for the end of the 2018 track and field season. The team traveled to a number of high schools to compete in various meets. Many members of the team begin formulating goals in hopes to make it to region.

On April 24 the team traveled to Bardstown to compete in the Nelson/Bullitt Border Battle hosted at Nelson County high school.

In the boys 100-meter dash, senior A.J Moss ended his run in third place out of 29 with a time of 11.40. Then was freshman Joshua Perdue ending in tenth place with a time of 11.78. Freshman Austin Long ended his run in place 15 with a time of 12.18. While sophomore Richie Jones placed eighth out of 19 in the boys 200-meter dash with a time of 25.10. In tenth place was Long with a time of 25.51. Right behind in place 11 was junior Matt Brown with a time of 27.15. Moss placed first out of 15 in the boys 400-meter dash ending his run with a clock time of 52.87. Perdue placed sixth with a time of 57.40. In the boys 800-meter run Ford placed sixth out of 18 with a time of 2:22.84. Senior William Smith was right behind in seventh with a time of 2:25.09.

Top boy to place in the 1600 meter run was freshman Camden Bohannon in place 11 out of 21 with a time of 5:19.81. Then was junior Tyler Ford in place 15 with a time of 5:42.40. In the boys 3200-meter run, eighth-grader Dalton Lesher placed first out of 14 with a time of 10:28.53.

Competing in the boys 100-meter hurdles was junior Hayden Gentry ending his run in first place out of six with a time of 15.30. Gentry then placed first out of six in the boys 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.99.

The boys 4X200 meter relay team placed second out of five teams with a time of 1:38.32. The boys 4X400 meter relay team placed third out of five with a time of 3:54.56. The boys 4X800 meter relay team placed third out of five with a time of 9:30.41.

Top on the team to place in the boys discus was Brown in tenth place out of 27 in the with a distance of 85-08.00. Then was senior Clay Williams placing 18 with a distance of 68-09.00. Brown placed 11 out of 25 in the boys shot put, with a distance of 31-04.00. Then was Williams in place 18 with a distance of 26-00.00.

Senior Lea Mueller was the first on the team to place in the 200-meter dash, ending her run in sixth place out of 25 with a time of 29.60. Then was senior Taylor Willis in ninth place with a time of 30.37. Sophomore Hana Davis placed 12 with a time of 31.32. Meanwhile, freshman Emily Tinelli came in first place out of eight in the girls 800-meter run with a time of 2:34.00. Tinelli then placed first out of ten in the girls 1600 meter run with a time of 5:50.44. Then was junior Lindsey  Spencer in sixth with a time of 6:19.03. Senior Meredith Thornsberry placed fifth out of seven in the girls 3200-meter run with an end time of 14:53.75.

As her last season as a track and field runner for East comes to a close, Thornsberry hopes to end the season on a good note. “Hopefully the end of the season will bring more personal bests, at regionals I hope to have a crazy big personal best. I won’t miss running because I can all the time, I plan to start training for marathons and such. What I will miss is my team, I love my team and I will miss racing and being with them all the time,” said Thornsberry.

Top on the team was Davis as she placed fifth out of seven in the girls 100-meter hurdles with a clock time of 16.50.

Willis placed first out of eight in the girls high jump with a height of 4-10.00. Mekaiya Cannon was the top girl to place in the girls long jump as she placed first out of nine with a distance of 14-10.50. Then was Mueller in fifth with a length of 13-02.50.

All members of the track and field team performed well in the Nelson/Bullitt Border Battle on April 24.

On April 27, the track and field team traveled to Elizabeth town to compete in the Panther Twilight competition.

First on the team to place in the girls 200-meter dash was Willis in place 17 out of 22 with a time of 30.89. Right behind in place 18 was Davis with a time of 31.21. Spencer placed 13 out of 16 in the girls 1600 meter run with a time of 6:31.57.

Willis placed third out of 12 in the girls high jump with a height of 4-08.00. Cannon placed sixth out of 12 in the girls long jump with a length of 13-09.75. Cannon then placed fourth out of ten in the girls triple jump with a distance of 30-03.25.

As the end of the season lingers, the time for region and state are approaching fast. Many members of the team begin setting personal goals for what is to come. “Last year I made it to state for the high jump, and I did pretty bad. I didn’t clear the height I usually clear and I was one of the first people to get out. Which was disappointing. This year, I’m changing my mindset so I will do better.  I want to do better than I’ve done my previous years. It’s my last year, so I won’t have next year to do this again,” said Willis.

Top boy on the team to place in the 200-meter dash was Moss as he placed third out of 20 with a time of 23.46. Moss then placed fourth out of 21 in the boys 400-meter run with a time of 53.14. Next was Perdue in place 11 with a time of 57.84.

Top boy on the team in the boys 100-meter hurdles was Jones as he placed 19 out of 24 with a time of 12.70. After competing in the boys 110-meter hurdles, Gentry placed sixth out of 16 with a time of 17.52. Then was junior Matthew Christmas in place 14 with a time of 20.38. Gentry then placed fourth out of 15 in the boys 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.36. Jones placed fourth out of 17 in the boys long jump with a length of 18-07.00.

The boys 4X400 meter relay team placed fifth out of eight with a time of 3:54.67.

First on the team to place in the boys discus was Brown coming in fifth out of 22 with a distance of 106-08.00. Brown then placed 13 out of 24 in the boys shot put with a distance of 32-03.75. Williams finished next with a place of 20 and a distance of 28-01.00.

All members of the track and field team performed well in the Panther Twilight competition on April 27.

The team as a whole has shown continued improvement throughout the season.
