65 school shootings have occurred in the United States in 2018, and another one just got added on the list.

This morning a school shooting took place at Butler High School in Matthews, North Carolina, resulting in the death of one student.

The victim was taken to Carolinas Medical Center Main, where he later died from injuries.

Superintendent Clayton Wilcox of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools says the incident began from a fight between the victim and the suspect in a main hallway at the school. The shooter, also a student, was apprehended in a classroom and has been taken into custody by the Matthews Police Department.

The school went on lockdown after the student was shot and is said to have lifted the lockdown around 9:15 a.m., allowing parents to pick up their children.

The campus has been roped off and secured by police officers. Police believe the incident was isolated, as no other students were injured.

This show of gun violence will bring back memories of the Marshall County High School shooting earlier this year in Marshall County, Kentucky. Bullitt East was affected by this tragedy since an alumni’s children were injured in the shooting. A racial hate crime, by shooting, also occurred close to home at the Jeffersontown Kroger on Oct. 26 resulting in the death of two people.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the Butler High School shooting.
