The football team came home with a win in the first game of a new era.

The Chargers went on the road and walked out with a 42-35 victory.

Bullitt East traveled to Fairdale on Saturday to take on the Bulldogs in the UPS King of the Bluegrass Bowl Game. The Chargers started hot and kept it up and finished strong. They hit a little adversity, but stayed poised and came out with a win.

Senior running back Montrell Page started the night off with a five yard touchdown run on the Chargers second possession of the game. The team busted out of the gates to go up 20-0 midway through the second quarter, but a few drives with no result and Fairdale with a few solid drives brought it back to 20-12 right before the half.

Fairdale came out of the half on offense and scored to bring it to 20-18, which put some game pressure on the Chargers. Starting junior quarterback Aeron Adams put the team on his back as he came right back and had a touchdown of his own. Adams ended the night with five touchdowns.

Fairdale wound up taking the lead 28-27 before Adams drove the Chargers down the field to take the lead right back at 35-28. “I just wanted to provide for my team. Our offense was clicking and the offensive line did a good job opening holes for all of us and we just took advantage of it,” said Adams.

The Bulldogs had a methodical drive that tied the game up after they converted a two-point conversion just before the Chargers took the punch and drove down and scored their final touchdown with just under a minute left in the game. That touchdown run by Adams ended up being the game winner as that wound up being the final at 42-35.

The team did take a blow last night as senior starting running back Max Gauthier went down with a knee injury. The severity is unknown, but it is something to keep an eye on going forward and how it will impact the team.

The Chargers are at home this week as they will take on the Spencer County Bears on Friday, August 30. The theme for the red zone will be college gameday with tailgating behind the CCC gym before the game for students. Come out and support your Chargers for their first home game.
