Girls soccer are charging their way to victory.

The Lady Chargers current stats are now 5-0-1.

On Wednesday, Aug. 28 the Lady Chargers won 4-0 against Atherton. They took home the win at PRP 10-0  Thursday, Aug. 29 after getting rained out Monday, Aug. 26. The Lady Chargers are now ranked 11 in the state.

During the home game against Atherton, with three minutes left in the first half, senior Chloe Holt scored the first goal. In the second half, senior Emily McDonald and junior Savannah Nalley scored a goal. Senior Tayler Mahoney scored a penalty kick.

“With a penalty kick, I had a lot of pressure to make the shot because I was one on one with the keeper. I was definitely nervous because I missed the same penalty kick against Male, but I knew the one tonight could be my redemption,” said Mahoney.

At PRP, the Lady Chargers took home the victory with their highest score of the season. Sophomore Emma Wright helped carry the team by scoring and assisting a total of five times. “It was nice to finally start finishing crosses and shots because the last few games it’s been a bit of a struggle,” said Wright.

With wins left and right, the lady chargers are making their way up to the top. The girls have high hopes for how the rest of their season should go.

“I think this season is going better than any of us could’ve imagined. Coming out and beating multiple teams that were ranked ahead of us was a pretty big deal. As for the rest of it, I think if we keep working hard we might swing an undefeated season,” said Wright.

This season they are up against the top-ranked teams in the Bluegrass State games. Although some may seem it as intimidating, the lady chargers are ready to take the win. “Our team is a team that never backs down from a challenge and when we are faced with adversity, we rise and overcome,” said Mahoney.

Despite the wins, there is always room for improvement. “I think that our team is really good at keeping our heads up and encouraging each other, but we need to work on calling names before we pass and being more accurate with passes,” said Nalley.

Their next game will be at North Bullitt Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 6 p.m.
