The infamous IT reawakens after its 27 year rest to terrorize the kids of Derry, Maine once again.

A modernized version of Stephen King’s IT hit the theatres last weekend after the original became a staple horror movie nearly 30 years ago.

The remake of the 1990 classic horror film, IT was released into theaters on Thursday, September 7. With new technologies, this remake came back with new and improved special effects and acting. There are lots of mixed feelings about this adaptation of IT.

In its opening weekend, the recently released “IT” made a groundbreaking $123.1 million for Warner Bros. It also broke the record for the largest movie opening in September, beating the last record Hotel Transylvania 2 by nearly $75 million.

IT tells the story of a group of kids called “The Losers Club” that are tormented by a clown named Pennywise that feeds on their fear. This group of kids put together their experiences and realize there is something up with their small town.

To put an end to the missing child cases and the terrifying encounters, “The Losers Club” must face their biggest fears and take Pennywise down. It is a rollercoaster of emotions, new relationships and overcoming fears.

With time comes improvement, so obviously 2017’s IT has more advanced special effects than 1990’s. This makes the fighting scenes and horrific images look more realistic.

Even with these new effects, many people believe that the old version is more frightening. In the 1990 version, Pennywise is portrayed as more of a normal clown then instantly changes and becomes horrifying.

In the new version, Pennywise immediately appears scary as a result of the new effects and gore so critics say there isn’t much of a shock. “Although I liked the recently released IT movie, I think the original version is much better and it’s scarier,” said Sophomore Amber Isabel.

Ever since the teaser trailer of IT came out, everyone has been anticipating the release. A good scary movie with a great plot is always needed around Halloween time, but most people don’t believe it was scary enough. “They put too much comedy in it for it to be scary, those kids were hilarious,” said Sophomore Reid Popplewell, who saw the movie.

Even though many students thought the new IT movie wasn’t as scary as the original, they still thought it was a good movie. With halloween right around the corner, students wanted a scary thriller but got a funny yet gory movie instead.
