Livewire’s School Safety Event

Walking out for a reason.

On Wednesday, schools all across the United States will participate in a walkout in support of the victims whose lives were taken at the 18 school shootings this year.

The Livewire has taken a large role in creating “Stand Up For Safe Schools” assembly and curating it to show support and not to just be getting out of class.

Principal, Chris Mason said in a video posted to Twitter, “I am proud to say that our students have organized a ‘Stand Up For School Safety’ assembly that will not only be a life lesson but will also honor the victims of Marshall County High School.”

Instead of walking out of the school, students are welcomed to leave after their seventh period and come to the gym for the assembly. Livewire elected to have the event take place outside, but due to precautions and the chance of it being “unsafe,” the event was moved to the main gym.

The assembly will start with a speech thanking all of the attendees for coming and will introduce the next speaker, science teacher Darrell Vincent. Vincent was asked to speak because he is a close friend of Scott Cosner who is the father of twin sons who were at Marshall County High School when the shooting unfolded.

In addition, senior William Smith is going to end the assembly with a speech regarding safety in our school and schools all around the United States.

Going to the assembly is completely optional and if a student decides to stay back some teachers will stay as well.
