Senior Baccalaureate Ceremony 2018
Seniors during the Baccalaureate Ceremony. This was an optional event for all seniors. “I know baccalaureate was more community and faith based and I wanted to be brought closer to my classmates,” said senior Courtney Barnes.

The beginning of the end.
Seniors kicked off their final week of high school with the Baccalaureate Monday night.
The class of 2018 gathered together in their gowns for the second time at St.Francis Xavier Church. This was an optional event for all seniors. Business teacher Daniel Rock was the main speaker for this ceremony and seniors Ashlie Gauthier and Brooke Hatfield led the group in prayer.
The program was kicked off with the Combined Choirs singing “Down in the River Valley” by Arr. Marc A. Hafso as the graduates walked in the room and took their seats. Shortly after, principal Chris Mason welcomed everyone who showed up and congratulated the seniors. “At this time next week you will be graduates and alumni of Bullitt East,” said Mason. Then senior Ashlie Gauthier gave the invocation.
The Combined Choirs then sang again, this time “It Takes A Village” by Joan Szymko. Before the song started each senior that was up on stage in the choir shared who their “village” is, which meant someone or several people who have helped raise them to the person that they are today.
English teacher Larry Steinmetz then introduced the Baccalaureate Speaker, Rock. “He cares about you, he brings passion to this school everyday and he loves you guys,” said Steinmetz.
Rock was voted to speak at the Baccalaureate by this year’s seniors. “From the bottom of my heart, I am honored to be here,” said Rock. The main message of Rock’s speech was to find your passion and what makes you happy. “You are the CEO of your career, the CEO of your life,” said Rock, “whatever you want to do, there’s nothing standing in your way.”
Senior Courtney Barnes said, “I feel that Mr.Rock did an amazing job and although I did not have him as a teacher, his words really stuck with me and inspired me.”
Brooke Hatfield gave the benediction right before the Combined Choir came on stage to sing again. The ceremony ended with Mason thanking the all the faculty and staff that were present and also the parents and kids that came. Then, the graduates walked out and the baccalaureate was concluded.
