The small things proved to be a difference.

Bullitt East dropped their first district game of the season Friday Oct. 11 to the Fern Creek Tigers with a final of 21-18.

Extra points proved to be the difference maker on a cold and rainy Friday night on the football field. Fern Creek and Bullitt East both scored three touchdowns apiece, but the Chargers wound up missing all three of their extra point kicks, which was costly.

The Chargers got the scoring started early in the game with a reversal play that worked to perfection. Junior Aeron Adams connected with senior Cade Miller down the sidelines for a touchdown, a play that was rewarded with WLKY’s play of the week. The Chargers took the lead 6-0 on the Tigers.

Bullitt East’s defense was strong early as they shut out Fern Creek in the first quarter and then forced a fumble early in the second as it was scooped up by senior Landon Maki that was taken all the way back for a score. That brought the score to 12-0, and the Chargers were in good position. Fern Creek came back next drive with a rushing touchdown to bring the score to 12-7, which was the score as they went to the half.

Fern Creek got the ball to start the second half and didn’t waste any time as they scored and connected with a 2-point conversion to go up 15-12. That was the score going to the fourth as the Chargers couldn’t get anything going offensively.

Adams put the Chargers back on top 18-15 with a QB sneak up the middle. The Charger defense stood strong next drive and forced a fumble with a recovery but the offense wasn’t able to do anything with it. Fern Creek scored with six minutes left in the game, but missed the extra point so a field goal would tie it up for the Chargers.

A few things didn’t swing in favor of the Chargers late in the game as they weren’t able to capitalize on their last drive and fell short to the Tigers 21-18.

Bullitt East will be back in action this Friday, Oct. 18 as they take on another district opponent, the Southern Trojans. It is the Chargers ‘Senior Night’ so come out and support those seniors and the rest of the team in their last home game of the season.
