In the last two weeks the Lady Chargers played four games, the first at home vs Atherton, August 11. The girls led with senior Jenna Tipton’s goal 1-0 going into the first half and after a nail biting second half Atherton scored 3 times, senior Emma Wright had two. Wright’s first goal was a header and her final goal across the goalie box brought the score to a 3-3 tie.

“During the game, I was exhausted. After the header, I was about to have an asthma attack but then the refs gave them a goal. I knew I couldn’t go out after that and was determined to  get another one. When the game was on the line I knew it was my turn to step up. I wasn’t going to lose the first game of my senior season,” said Emma Wright.

August 14, the Ladies played @ Christian Academy winning 3-1. Goals were made by sophomore Madeline Wheeler, Tipton, and Wright. Wright also had an assist.

“I felt like I finally did something to put myself, mentally, over the hump of losing our games in the BGSG (Bluegrass State Games). It was an indescribable feeling,” said Wheeler.

August 16, the Ladies played against Fern Creek winning 7-0. Goals were made by Wright,  senior Maddie Hurley, senior Emma Egan, junior Lily Reid, Tipton, and junior Klaire Hourigan. junior Reagan Demusey also had an assist and sophomore goalie Ashley Burbrink had two saves.

“Honestly, it felt crazy to believe. Once I realized I had scored, I was kind of shocked. Having never played soccer before this spring, I had no idea how soccer worked or what kind of skill it took. I didn’t begin building confidence on the field until my third or fourth game, and once I scored, it shot through the roof. After the game, all of my family said that the confidence showed immediately after the goal in my aggression and eagerness to touch the ball,” said Hurley.

August 18, Bardstown beat the Ladies 3-0 in a highly competitive game.

Their next game is August 21, 10 a.m. @ Anderson County.
