Everybody I Want to See at the Met Gala this Year

One of the biggest events in Fashion culture, the Met Gala, is approaching, so I’ve gathered my list of celebrities I want to be there (in alphabetical order). The theme of the 2023 Met Gala is “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”, as a tribute to the creations of Lagerfeld and his collections over time. He has worked with his own fashion line (Karl Lagerfeld), Fendi, Chanel, Jean Patou, Chloé, H&M, Hogan, Macy’s, Falabella, and other brands. He has been very notable for keeping the Chanel legacy ongoing with a modern twist, while still keeping the vision of Coco Chanel alive. With his many iconic collections and achievements, it's time to pay an ode to him at this upcoming Met Gala.

April 18, 2023

  1. Timothee Chalamet-

One of the most talented actors (getting a start at a young age), Timothee Chalamet is a must at the Gala this year. He knows how to be unique, stand out by breaking gender norms, and do so brilliantly. I’d be one of many to hope to see him attend the event again this year. He even has “met” in his name. 1. Emma Chamberlain-

With hosting the Met Gala last year, she should have no problem taking part in it this year. With her trendy fashion sense, she is an icon for her generation regarding style, and I don’t think the event would be the same without her. Photo: John Park via Wikimedia Commons

  1. Kit Connor-

The Heartstopper star that most people know as Nick Nelson, Kit Connor, would be a realistic prediction for the guest list because of his uprising in popularity after his Netflix success this year. I think he’d get an exciting reaction from the media if he showed at the Met Gala, and would be able to pull off the style of  Lagerfeld’s creations (particularly a Fall 2006 Menswear type of vibe from his name brand). 1. Emma Corrin-

Emma Corrin is making waves in the acting universe but is also inspiring countless people out in the world. Corrin is confident and comfortable in their skin, and is one of the current most famous genderfluid celebrities, making them even more of an icon. I think they are a must at the gala not only because of their relevance and popularity but because of their sense of style that would work so well with that of Lagerfeld’s creations. 1. Miley Cyrus-

One of the boldest women in the industry, Miley Cyrus, would deliver a look to make people talk if she attended. She is notorious for always showing her loud personality and never being afraid to be herself, which is why I’d love to see this creative self-expression from her at the Met. 6. Cara Delevingne-

As one of my favorite models, Cara Delevingne would absolutely shine in a Lagerfeld-inspired look. There is something special and original about Delevingne, and it’s hard to find such uniqueness in the modeling industry today. I could picture her wearing something reminiscent of Lagerfeld’s Chanel Haute Couture collection in 1984. Photo: StyleBistro via Flickr

  1. Billie Eilish-

Billie Eilish came in last year’s Met Gala looking like a 50s queen wearing Oscar de la Renta, and I’d love to see her unique style blossom to surprise us again if she were to attend the event this year. Photo: Vogue via Wikimedia Commons

8. Selena Gomez-

Selena Gomez really is a rare beauty and is one of the purest stars I can name. I know this is based on style, but she’s got that too. Gomez isn’t the type to wear a plain dress to an event, but she brings this softness and gracefulness into the fashion world, perfectly displaying her personality. 1. Ariana Grande-

Ariana Grande is blooming into the best version of herself, and while some, especially her haters, cannot handle this, I think she’d be able to show her true self on Met Gala grounds. Grande is a pioneer in fashion, as she has previously set or brought back numerous trends (high ponytails, oversized sweatshirts, knee-high boots). She is a very busy woman with the production of Wicked, and the success of her beauty line “r.e.m. beauty”, and it’s also improbable that she’d attend this year considering her last and only year at a Met Gala was in 2018. But you never know. Photo: Cosmopolitan UK via Wikimedia Commons

  1. Conan Gray-

Conan Gray is a hidden gem in the music industry and in the fashion world as well. He knows how to make an appearance at carpet events, and he is truly a beauty. It is hard to find people as rare as Gray, who sported Valentino at the 2022 Met Gala, which is why he is a must for the event this year. Photo: Brian Ziff via Wikimedia Commons

  1. Bella Hadid-

One revolutionary figure in fashion culture today is undeniably Bella Hadid. In Lagerfeld’s time in the industry for over 55 years, Hadid has walked in some of his works. Having the professionality of a businesswoman and bringing back old fashion trends in her street style, she has also made appearances on 29 covers of Vogue across the world. It would be a beautiful moment for her to pay an ode to him at the Met. Photo: Georges Biard via Wikimedia Commons

  1. Gigi Hadid-

Gigi Hadid has to be there. Hadid has not only walked for Lagerfeld before, but she was also the last model to close out his final Fendi show, which would make her a pretty solid prediction for an appearance this year. Considering how emotional and close her relationship with Lagerfeld is, I’d love to see how she’d pay this tribute. With all of her past appearances, she has constantly shown one of the most notable looks of the night, which people talk about or even strive to recreate. 1. Niall Horan-

With his new album approaching, and his success as a soloist, I hope Niall Horan will make the invite list. He brings fun energy wherever he goes, and I think an event like this should have that person. Horan is currently creating the soundtrack to my summer, but if he could find the time to show up to this event, he would get endless support from his fans, and he’d be loved by those at the event. 1. Paris Jackson-

It’s no surprise I’d want to see Paris Jackson at this event. But I can’t be blamed, as she is proving herself time after time to be one of the most fashionable models today with every event she shows up to. Her style off of the carpet could be considered free-spirited or bohemian (which is already respectable), but she brings out glamour and elegance in her appearances when the time comes. Jackson always nails her outfit perfectly for every occasion, and I’d like to see how she interprets an ode to Lagerfeld. I would love to see her show in a look inspired by Lagerfeld’s edgy creations such as his Chanel Fall 2020 Couture collection. Photo: Kadri Koop via Wikimedia Commons

  1. Kendall Jenner-

Kendall Jenner has my personal favorite style of all the Kardashian-Jenner family, and she had one of my favorite looks at the Met Gala in 2021 in her star-studded dress. Jenner is the world’s highest-payed model and she has appeared nine times on the Met Gala floor. Jenner would be able to sport an ode to Lagerfeld with confidence, as she is never afraid to wear something attention-grabbing or extravagant. Photo: Vogue Taiwan via Wikimedia Commons

16. Zoё Kravitz-

Zoё Kravitz may be the daughter of the very notable Lenny Kravitz, but she is making a name for herself as an actress and has a huge success of her own. Kravitz has attended the Met Gala 10 times since 2004, and according to Vogue France, is “the most searched star for the Met Gala”. Her looks always bring something different, and something to talk about. I hope she will add 2023 to her list of Met Gala appearances. I’d be excited to see if she goes for a glamorous vibe like most of her previous looks, or if she would surprise her fans with something new. Photo: Mario De Armas via Wikimedia Commons

  1. Dua Lipa-

Dua Lipa not only delivers future nostalgia in the music she makes but in her sense of style as well. She can be a flashback while still having her own style incorporated into her outfits. Being an ambassador for Versace, Lipa has experience in the fashion world and has great taste in style. When looking at the vibe of Lagerfeld’s 90s collections (especially 1992), I could see Lipa grabbing inspiration from these chain-embellished pieces. 1. Lizzo-

An advocate for body positivity, feminism, racial equality, and being comfortable in your own skin, Lizzo is the type of celebrity who’s extroverted, happy personality we’ve always needed. Lizzo has shown us that it is not only okay to be different, but that we should embrace and celebrate what makes us stand out from a crowd. This is the exact reason we need Lizzo to walk the Met Gala this year. Photo: Cosmopolitan UK via Wikimedia Commons

  1. Joe Locke-

Joe Locke is a very stylish young actor who just recently gained much popularity after the success of Netflix’s “Heartstopper”. He should be recognized for his acting skills, but also his sense of sleek style in photoshoots, and his up-to-date knowledge of fashion trends. He would be able to pull off an ode to Lagerfeld very well since he can carry himself like a model. Photo: France RC via Wikimedia Commons

  1. Ross Lynch-

Ever since I was younger, Ross Lynch has been an icon in my mind, showing what it means to be a celebrity. He’s not the most popular out there, but he’s having fun and not letting anyone take that away from him. From acting on Disney Channel, to having a band with his siblings, “R5”, to now being in a new band “The Driver Era” with his brother Rocky Lynch, Ross Lynch can do it all. Not only would I love to see him in concert, but I’d be very happy to see him taking part in the tribute to Lagerfeld. Photo: Wikipedista2014 via Wikimedia Commons

  1. Janelle Monae-

Need I say more? Janelle Monet has a sense of the fashion world and a vision that few possess when it comes to style. She has previously worn four hats to the Met in 2019, with a beautiful contemporary, modern, artistic dress from Christian Siriano. Her Ralph Lauren gown from the 2022 Met was another personal favorite of mine. We need to see what she will bring to the table this year if she were to attend this year. 1. Florence Pugh-

Florence Pugh is currently one of the most talented actresses having roles in movies including Don’t Worry Darling, Black Widow, Midsommar, and Little Women. She has amazing acting abilities but also knows how to own the carpet at the events she goes to. When it comes to fashion, Pugh goes all out and, knows her style. I’d love to see this style at this year’s Gala. Photo: Raph Pour-Hashemi via Wikimedia Commons

  1. Lana Del Rey-

Lana Del Rey is always channeling a vibe that is unique to her. Her style is glamorous and Americana, with a magical voice like no other, straight out of the 50s. The one thing that makes her different is her truthfulness and transparency about who she is, making her relatable. Lana’s style can be elegant, but also humble. Take for example her diamond-covered Grammy’s dress in 2020, which she bought at the mall the day of for under $600. I’d love to see what she’d pull out to wear at an event like this. 1. Rihanna-

Rihanna is obviously a must at the Gala this year because she will not only nail the ode to Lagerfeld, but she also brings the most extravagant outfits to the gala. She has previously worn Balenciaga, John Galliano, Comme des Garçons, and many other talented designers, but she wears these designs with such confidence, making her stand out with all of her Met Gala appearances. She is very busy, especially with a baby on board, but it would be exciting if she could make time for the event this year. SIGMA via Wikimedia Commons

  1. Olivia Rodrigo-

Olivia Rodrigo is one of the youngest fashion-forward figures in the music industry right now, and I say she deserves the appreciation she gets. While channeling late 90s and early 2000s nostalgia in her outfits on and off screen, Rodrigo always knows how to dress for an event. I think that her look at the 2022 Met in her sparkly Versace was stunning, and one of the best dresses at the event. She wore a black, lace, Saint Laurent jumpsuit in 2021. I think she should keep up the streak of her attendance, and join the ode this year. Photo: Nick Walker via Flickr

  1. Stephen Sanchez-

Stephen Sanchez is somewhat of a wildcard. I’d say he could possibly make the invite with his popularity this past year after the release of his 50s-inspired single that went viral, “Until I Found You”. With his self-determined style and uniqueness, I’d be excited to see him show, and even incorporate his old-fashioned inspiration into his look. Photo: Gus Philippas via Flickr

  1. Harry Styles-

Being one of the industry’s most hard-working and innovative celebrities, Styles might have a hard time making room for such an event. But as one of his biggest fans, this is a necessity. Styles knows how to bring a glamorous and flamboyant twist to standard sophistication in fashion, all while breaking gender norms. Upon every arrival at an event Styles can turn heads in sparkles, feathers, pearls, leather, or even a sweater. In 2019, Styles- with the help of fellow co-chair Alessandro Michelle -executed the theme, “Camp: Notes on Fashion”, with perfection and I’d love to see him be the talk of the night again by drawing inspiration from Lagerfeld’s most engaging work. 1. Taylor Swift-

Taylor Swift attended the Met a few times, especially in her early years, bringing looks that were mellow or ones that were amazingly striking. Taylor has worn all kinds of brands in her Met Gala experience from Ralph Lauren, J. Mendel, and Badgley Mischka to Oscar de la Renta and Louis Vuitton. Her last two appearances in 2014 and 2016 were very significant, but it would be great to see what she’d bring to the carpet this year. Photo: Cosmopolitan UK via Wikimedia Commons

  1. Gerard Way-

It is extremely hard to find rare people like Gerard Way. He is exactly what the Met Gala needs, someone who isn’t afraid to wear whatever they want even if it is controversial or uncommon. Way’s style, especially when it comes to his tour outfits, is unmatched like when he will come on stage in an outfit you would’ve never expected (even if it is a cheerleading costume). Someone who will bring the edge, and the surprises, Way is someone I’d love to see on the Met Gala’s invite list. Photo: Drew de F Fawkes via Wikimedia Commons

  1. Zendaya-

Zendaya is one of today’s biggest stars, and there are countless reasons for so. Someone that many look up to, with so much confidence is everything that is needed at the Met Gala. I can try to predict what type of look she would pull off if she were to make an appearance, but she would be able to execute any outfit as an ode flawlessly. Many comment on how beautiful Zendaya is, and part of what contributes to her beauty is how her inner beauty always radiates and follows her wherever she goes.
