The New Track

Racing away to the bleachers this year.

This year students aren’t allowed to walk on the new track, and they’re hurrying to the bleachers for seats.

The new track is a new adjustment to everyone. Students are no longer allowed to walk on the track during the games. “A huge investment was made to redo the track and facilities. That investment needs to be protected and taken care of. Thus, to save wear and tear on the track, unnecessary foot traffic will not be allowed on the track,¨ said Lenny Raley, the track coach for the Bullitt East track team.

Now that the students can no longer walk on the track, the bleachers are a bit more crowded than before. Chris Mason, the Principal, has had some ideas for making more space. “What we’ve talked about this year is trying to maybe find a way to add on to what we have this year, and then hopefully in the next year or two maybe we could come up with some new bleachers,¨ said Mason.

Once the fence around the track is put up, students will still be able to walk around the edge of the track. “Once the fence gets put up, people will be able to move around on the outside of the track,¨ said Mason. Even though students won’t be able to walk around the track there will still be room in the bleachers on the edge of the track.

The new track was badly needed. For eight years, Bullitt East hasn’t been able to host a track meet. Now with the new track, the team is very pleased, as is Coach Raley, that track meets can now be hosted here. Even if some the students are disappointed, this purchase was badly needed.
