Progress and Success

As the season progresses, improvement impresses.

In the past week the Bullitt East cross country team traveled and competed in two different events.

Moving further into the season the team has been doing nothing but improving speed as well as skill. Starting off the week with a 3k, and ending it with a 5k, the team has put in a lot of work, but it surely paid off.

On Tuesday, September 6, the team ran in the Atherton Hilltop Series #1 at atherton high school. This race was a 3k race instead of the usual 5k. Everyone on the team is improving, and their speeds are increasing.

This was a very good run for the girls as they placed 1st overall. Lauren Masden, senior, finished her 3k run in 12:12, naming her the first runner out of 80 to end the race. This is extremely impressive considering it was her first time running in a cross country race.

Next on our team was sophomore, Lindsey Spencer, with a time of 13:11. Ending the race as the 3rd runner to finish. Not far behind was Abigail Clarkson, sophomore, with a time of 14:16. Meredith Thornsberry, junior, came next as she clocked in with a time of 16:18. All the runners performed exceptionally well.

The top boy to finish the 3k race on our team was Josh Wetzel, sophomore, with a time of 11:20. Naming him the 4th runner out of 65 to complete the race.

Next on the team was Matt Wheeler, Junior, coming in at 12:21, as the 23rd runner to finish. Right behind was Cole Davenport, sophomore, who completed his 3k in 12:28. Making him the 24th runner to end the race. The next to clock in was Blake Hourigan, sophomore, who came in at 13:54.

On Saturday, September 10, the team traveled to Goshen Kentucky to compete in the Rumble Through the Jungle 5k morning event. The girls began running at 9:55, followed by the boys at 10:35.

The top girl on the team was Lindsey Spencer, sophomore, who finished her 5k race with a time of 24:02, naming her the 78th runner to end the race out of 158. Abigail Clarkson, sophomore, completed her 5k clocking in with a time of 25:13 as the 109th runner to finish. Coming in with a time of 29:15 was junior, Meredith Thornsberry. All of the girls ran well in Saturday’s meet.

The first boy to finish his 5k on the team was junior, Matt Wheeler, coming in with a time of 21:39. Making him the 146th runner to end the race out of 185. Next was Josh Wetzel, sophomore, who completed his 5k with a time of 21:48, as the 150th runner to finish. Right behind was Cole Davenport clocking in at 21:53, naming him the 151st to complete the race.

Sophomore, Jurome Dela Cruz ended his 5k race with a time of 22:35. Next was sophomore, Blake Hourigan clocking in with a time of 25:33. The boys team ranked 22nd overall.
All members of the Bullitt East XC team performed very well in both of the events during this past week.
