Power to the Positive

A little bit of kindness can go a long way.

The newest talk in the Charger community is all about an anonymous twitter account, @behspositive, created to use positive reinforcement and compliments to bring the school together.

This account is ran by our very own East administration, with the help of student “scouts” that shout out and recommend not only other students, but staff as well. When a scout sees a random act of kindness taking place, they send the name of the person who is performing it and @behspositive will tweet out what they did.

Over the years, social media has become one of the most popular ways of connecting people all over the world, with apps like Instagram, Snapchat, VSCO, and perhaps the most known of them all, Twitter. But these apps have not always been known for being positive, but for sometimes creating troubling situations in the community, and even in school in the past years. @behspositive is hoping to change the perspective of how social media is ran by promoting all of the positive things that go unnoticed, instead of the more degrading ones that do. “We want to make Bullitt East not only a more genuinely positive school, we want students to be so positive and heartwarming to others that it becomes a habit,” said @behspositive.

The way the account works is by having as many nice or positive random acts of kindness tweeted about as possible during the day, so that it will spread all over the school and further into the community. “We will tweet as many as we can a day. That is our goal here; to recognize those who do small random acts of kindness that get taken for granted, and thank them for it,” said @behspositive.

BE Positive plans to continue on with the account for as long as it can to help spread kindness to the environment even after the school year is over, “We hope to make a huge positive impact on BEHS and continue the tradition and account for years to come.”
