Kickin’ off the Season

The 2017-18 football season kicked off on Friday, August 18.

The Chargers hosted their first game of the year against the Butler Bears.

Bullitt East prepared for the Butler game a week in advance. The loss motivated the players because it was a tough one and it made them better prepared for the next game. Changes will be made in the next game due to the rough loss.

The Chargers had to focus on the Bear’s playstyle and tried to create a successful game before the two teams faced off. “We started preparing for Butler the day after our scrimmage with Collins, and we studied film and ran plays against their offense and defense,” said senior and middle linebacker, Logan McKenna.

Unfortunately, the Chargers weren’t well enough prepared. East lost the game 53-0 in Butler’s favor. From the beginning of the game it was clear that the Bears outmatched the Chargers. Butler started the game with a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown. This play perfectly describes the rest of game. “It was a rough game but I think that the team can learn from our mistakes and get the win next Friday,” said junior quarterback, Dj Chappell.

Some people say that the first game represents how the season will look, but that is not always the case. After taking a hard loss, the chargers are motivated and ready to put in work for their next game. “I think it did motivate us because nobody likes losing like that at all. Everyone will be mad and ready to prepare for the next game and hope to come out on top,” said Chappell.

After teams take a hard loss, they usually will change things up a bit to try and overcome their challenges from the last game. Chappell said, “I’m sure there will be many changes to come. A loss like that we will have to change up something to have a better outcome.”

The team will try to bounce back on Friday, August 25 against Central Hardin.
