Thousands of people try and reach safety after seeing ashes and lava shoot out of a volcano.

On Jan. 22, Mount Mayon began erupting.

This day was very frightening for many. The volcano caused many issues around the area. It affected anything and everything in its path.

Mount Mayon is a very dangerous volcano located in the Philippines. It is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. There has been plenty of explosions from this volcano already. In 2013, five climbers died due to falling rocks from the explosion. In 1814, Mount Mayon erupted and killed nearly 1,200 people. As seen, this volcano could erupt at any point in time.

Recently, the volcano has been quite active. The alert for the volcano was at a three but was quickly raised as the volcano began spitting lava and ashes. When the alert of a volcano is at level three, it means that the volcano is at risk of fully erupting.

The locals had to immediately evacuate the area to reach safety. The potential of this volcano is so dangerous that schools, private and public, were closed. People were advised to wear facemasks to avoid the fumes from the volcano.

Mount Mayon is very large in size. Residents from Legazpi City, Albay, which is 200 miles southeast of the Philippines, could see the volcano as it began to explode.

Thankfully, no one was killed due to the explosion. Hopefully in the future Mount Mayon will calm down and will be less active.
