Reality easily sets in when considering a forthcoming special election.

On Friday Feb. 16 Linda Belcher spoke to students about various topics concerning future ideas and plans.

Former state representative Linda Belcher is running for the 49 district seat in the house. The upcoming special election will take place on Tuesday Feb. 20. Belcher voiced her thoughts on school safety, medical marijuana, road plans and more to students who attended the assembly.

Students from yearbook, journalism and AP government classes all attended the debate. Although there were people from a number of different classes present, Belcher’s talk was heavily directed towards seniors who are currently eligible to vote or will be eligible in the near future. Belcher explained that every single vote counts and encouraged people who are eligible to vote to do so.

Towards the end of the assembly, Belcher allowed students to voice their opinions on the topics of medical marijuana and gambling, since both can have numerous sides and viewpoints to them.

She says that student opinion is very important, especially when thinking about the future. “You’re gonna be responsible for everything in Bullitt County if you stay in Bullitt County. I happen to love this county so I want it to remain a good county,” said Belcher.

Belcher’s question and answer session gave our students a huge opportunity to share personal opinions and viewpoints, while at the same time stating her thoughts with everyone.Rebecca Johnson, who is also running for the 49 district seat, declined to attend the question and answer session.
