As the first day of Senior year begins, so do the traditions.
The class of 2026 is our new seniors. Many of them have been waiting for this year to begin and have a fresh new start.
What makes a pair of jeans so special? Why childhood backpacks? Why are Senior soakers so much fun?
Senior jeans have been trending all over the United States, and a common thing for people to do. At Bullitt East High School, many of the senior girls will wear “Senior Jeans” on the first day of school. What makes a pair of jeans special? To start, you go buy a pair of jeans that you like or that most people have, then from there you create them and turn them into your own. A lot of people will put their school name and the year that they’re graduating. Everyone will take cute pictures in them to remember the times and memories they made throughout high school. “I felt kind of sad seeing my classmates that I grew up with wearing the senior jeans along with me because we are getting old, but cute that we all did it,” said Anna Tinelli.
Backpacks are something that everyone in the school stresses about. Whether the backpack is not going to fit all your supplies in, if the backpack is cute or not, or if it’s not the bag that everyone has. For seniors, it’s different. They can buy a childhood backpack that they would’ve loved when they were younger. Most people choose something they used to watch when they were younger, such as superheroes or princesses. It’s a moment that you can reflect on how much you’ve changed over the years. “I chose Buzz Lightyear because he was always my go-to guy, and in my childhood, the guys that are always that second guy towards people, with my older brother being the main guy, as in he’d be Woody, and I’d be Buzz Lightyear”, said Canon Bostock.
Senior soakers is a game that Bullitt East High School plays. When you’re playing this game, you want people not to know where you are or who you’re with, and you can trust no one. This game gets very competitive. The seniors will follow each other around with a water gun and spot their target. If you get hit with the water, they will post the video on the social media account, and then you’re out. Everyone wants to be the last one standing when it comes to this game. At the end of the game, if you’re the last one standing, you win the prize money. It’s not about the prize money, though; it’s the last time to laugh with your classmates and be competitive with each other. “Yeah, I feel like our class wants to win a little more than the others did, and we’ll be willing to go to further expense to win,” said Bryce Abrahamson.
