Everyone’s Gottahave Wawa in their life.
As Wawa continues its expansion across Kentucky, our community is set to welcome this popular convenience store within the next year.
Wawa is a chain store and gas station that offers a variety of freshly made food, snacks, specialty drinks, and more. The city of Mount Washington is currently undergoing construction as it builds its newest addition off Bardstown Road, which is set to be completed in late 2025 to early 2026.
Many people are familiar with the widespread pit stop, Wawa, that spreads up and down the East Coast. This store/gas station is most well-known for its quick service of made-to-order meals. From hoagies to coffee, Wawa has something for everyone to try. “Wawa is bringing their niche to the Mt Washington community by offering services and products inside the store that other convenience stores may not be offering.” Greg Gentry said, a Councilman for the City of Mount Washington.
Wawa came to Kentucky planning to start immediate construction on 8 stores and plans to build a total of 40 stores across the State of Kentucky. Each store will cost approximately 7.5 million dollars to build and will hire around 140 local contractors per store. Once it is built, Wawa will generate revenue for the City through property taxes and payroll. “I think it will have a good impact; it gives the residents another option and forces the other places to stay competitive.” Tom Chamberlain said, a local resident and real estate broker.
“The City of Mt. Washington is one of the fastest-growing cities in the state. With that in mind, we present great opportunities for development. The City must manage the growth to ensure it grows in the right direction. Wawa seems to be a good fit for the community, especially along the corridor it chose.” Stuart Owen said, Mount Washington mayor.
Mount Washington is a growing city by the day. The city has a population of around 19,000 people; of these, nearly 1,800 are high school students. One of the upsides is the job opportunities that will be brought to the community. “We hope the new store will create 30-40 new jobs. Wawa is known for its competitive salaries and on-the-job training. Some of the positions are expected to be filled with employees as young as 16 years of age. We hope some of our young community members take advantage of these job opportunities,” Owen Said.
Wawa will make a great addition to the city of Mount Washington. Make sure to keep an eye out for their opening dates on their website here. Grand opening day will start at 8 AM with free coffee all day. The first 100 customers will receive a free T-shirt, and the ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 8:30 AM. Followed by their signature “Hoagies for Heroes” hoagie-building contest.
