On Wednesday, September 16th, more than 50 juniors attended a GSP meeting in Mrs. Gary’s room. Seven GSP 2015 alumni including, Maddie Wilson, Charlotte Mason, Emily Miles, Alyssa Hiemer, Haley Steinmetz, Joel Huether, and Olivia Myers, helped host the meeting to give their perspective about the Governors Scholar Program.

The meeting was held to talk about the process of applying for GSP and how the program is beneficial to students. All of the alumni agreed that spending five weeks of their summer at a college campus, “Changed their perspective and their lives,” said Wilson.

One thing that was stressed about the application process was to make yourself stand out. Steinmetz said, “We’ve been taught not to brag about ourselves all our lives but in this situation, do the opposite.” Students were advised to include any and all volunteer work, clubs, after-school activities and leadership programs they have been involved in.

To conclude the meeting, counselor, Mrs. Barr, explained that students should begin their application now because it is a long and strenuous process. All counselors review and return applications before the due date of December 4th, 2015.
