Parking Lot Chaos

Derek Rogers, Staff Writer

This morning, January 8th, an East student driver struck another student in the parking lot at approximately 6:50 am.

The driver was backing into his spot when attempting to shift gears when their vehicle jerked forward and struck the other student.

“Right when I was trying to shift into reverse, I was looking to make sure I was lined up with my parking spot. Then right when I was shifting into reverse is when I hit them [the student],” said the the driver.

The driver immediately got out of their vehicle to ensure that the student hit was okay. Shortly after, the rest of the office faculty was informed.

911 was called by the office staff after the driver alerted them as to what had happened. However, the response of the EMS was delayed which is what led to the fire truck showing up.

‘We have three people assigned to parking lot duty on that side, and their job is to help and guide everybody safely. The big thing is for everybody to pay attention to what is going on around them and keep their eye on traffic as it moves, especially on rainy days,” said Mr. Huber.
The student is not believed to have any major injuries, just a few scrapes and bruises.
