Bringing the ACC Baseball Championship to Louisville Slugger

Louisville Slugger Field is now home to the Atlantic Coast Conference baseball championship.

The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) chose the Louisville Slugger Field to host the upcoming ACC Baseball Championship after relocating from Charlotte North Carolina, to protest a state law that required transgender people to use the restrooms at schools and government buildings according to the sex on their birth certificates.

Louisville Slugger opened in 2000 and is currently home to the minor league baseball team, Louisville Bats, and the Louisville City FC soccer team. The stadium has a seating capacity of 13,131 people and the seats are expected to be filled because the University of Louisville is in ACC and if they make it to the championship, Cardinal fans will flock to the local stadium to cheer on their team.

The championship was originally scheduled to be at Durham Bulls Athletic park in Durham, North Carolina. Baseball isn’t the only sport being moved. The ACC announced the new locations of seven other of its championships. The ACC Women’s Soccer Championship has been moved to MUSC Health Stadium in Charleston, South Carolina and the ACC Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships have been relocated to the Georgia Tech Aquatics Center in Atlanta Georgia. Men’s and Women’s Golf, and Men’s and Women’s Tennis have also been relocated due to the new law that has upset the ACC.

The championship at Louisville Slugger will be held May 23-28. This will be the first time Louisville Slugger has ever hosted a ACC Championship.
