Cancelling Festivals in the Fall

There are some changes this fall.

The annual Fall Festival in Mount Washington is an event held every year around the month of September and early October.  A gathering in the middle of town, this event welcomes people of all ages. Though this year it has been decided that there will not be one.

On August 20, Chairman Mike Frye posted on the Mount Washington Fall Festival Facebook page stating that due to lack of volunteers there will not be a festival in the fall this year.

With hopes of continuing this event again in the future, Frye is in need of more willing workers to help out.

For many people in town, this event is something greatly looked forward to. But to make a community activity like this happen, there is a huge need for helpers and people willing to put in the work.

After learning about this cancellation, many people aren’t too happy. “It’s stupid because it’s a great way to get kids and families together. And it helps stop teens from doing stupid stuff,” said junior Briana Harris.

Many people after hearing that there will not be a festival, showed motivation to volunteer for the next one. “I’m feeling pretty down about it, I was looking forward to it, as I’m sure a lot of other people were. But the fact of them not having a lot of good support, really makes me want to help out,” said sophomore Hunter Ryan.

After attending the fall festival for most of her life, senior Haley Chisolm shows concern for the community as a whole. “It makes me disappointed in the community, that there isn’t enough involvement to run something that’s been going on for a while now,” said Chisolm.

As of now, the spring festival is still on the schedule. As long as there are enough people willing to work, this event should be a success.
