Swim Team’s First Meet

Lindsey Spencer, Equipment Coordinator

With their first meet in the books, the swim team is looking towards a strong season.

The Chargers had the first meet of the season on Tuesday at Central High School and placed third overall out of nine teams on the girls side and fifth out of ten teams on the boys side.

Some of the top performers this week were sophomore Grace McCarter and senior Matthew McCarter. Grace McCarter’s best events were the 100 yard IM, in which she placed 2nd of 19 with a time of 1:11.13 and 3rd place out of 39 with a time of 32.75 in the 50 yard backstroke. Matthew McCarter’s best events were also the 100 yard IM and 50 yard backstroke, with a finish of 6th of 13 and a time of 1:10.19 and a place of 4th of 21 and a time of 34.30, respectively.

Senior Reagan Hardy is one of the captains this year and was another strong performer. “I think we always just try our hardest, and we know we’re not always gonna come in first because we’re a smaller team and go against schools like Manual….but I’m confident in our team doing well…I think we’ll go far,” says Hardy. She also says that she hopes they will be able to send a relay team to the state meet this year.

The rest of the team had strong finishes as well and the rest of the season is looking to be a successful one.

The team will compete again on the 8th at the Battle of the Swamp at the University of Louisville on the 11th at Central High School.
