Hold onto your flags and rifles, Bullitt East color guard is ready for one of their best seasons yet.
They are one of the most prepared in the northern Kentucky area. Their routine is beautiful and is surely a sight for those who get the opportunity to view it. This is very shocking, though, especially when you take into consideration how many new students joined just this year.
Color guard had their first competition on August 23rd at the Christian Academy of Learning. It was not scored, but they were the most prepared there. Proving themselves this early in the season that they are ready for first place. According to the players they go against the same teams just about every year. Flag captain Molly Rushing said, “There’s a few groups that do this every year, but I’m not really worried about them because I’m just here to have fun.”
People consider them to be an extension of marching band because, for each performance, color guard and marching band perform simultaneously. Their theme this year is City of Angels. “I really like the theme this year and I can’t wait to see how the full performance comes together,” said body captain Caleb Mitchell.
While the team last year consisted of only 13 members, 21 students are participating this season! They’re ecstatic because last year, they were so desperate for more people that they had to resort to the morning announcements. Not to mention how happy they are to just have new people as a part of their family!
“I’m really looking forward to being in the competitions and like experiencing all that, and especially the new kids, I just wanna y’know see their faces light up when we first get on that field and perform, and like put on those costumes. I think it’s gonna be a really great one for all of us,” said weapon captain Braydon Pierce.
The bond they all have creates this welcoming atmosphere and truly makes for a captivating performance.
