This is Madeline Myers, a sophomore at Bullitt East and one of the copy editors of the Journalism program. She decided to join the class for the first time after taking intro to journalism the previous year because of her interest in writing and her desire to become more involved in school. She is also a member of the Beta and Project Unify clubs.

Members of one of the sophomore girls teams for tug-of-war express their determination to win this competition while students cheer them on from the side during the annual Greek Games on May 2. The tug-of-war competitions comprised much of the time devoted to activities that the Games featured, in which students utilized their aggressiveness to try to assert their dominance over other grade levels, while many students inversely chose not to participate to avoid being subordinated for the same reasons. Freshmen are new and want to save face. Sophomores and juniors are jaded and want to keep their image. They tend to hold themselves in high regard and dont want to embarrass themselves, said band teacher Trevor Ervin.

Senior James Nash is victorious in his duel against his Spencer County High School opponent on the senior night home match on Jan. 23. Successes by seniors on the wrestling team like this one reflect the especially hard work they have endured this season, not only to embrace their last opportunity to become a Regional Champion and/or State Place winner but to serve as an example for underclassmen on the team, so they will be inspired to train and prepare equally as vigorously, although most younger members have already done so independently of older role models. My original reason [for joining the team] was to win and make myself better, but it changed. My new motivation is to inspire others and make others better, and not only my team but others as well, said senior Patrick Netherton.

Contributions like his and other members of the team who have been putting forth a relentless effort to strengthen their wrestling skills are the main sources of the teams improvement from last year; if the effort continues, the team will be much more likely to finally achieve the end-of-season goals that have been desired by them for many years. Wrestling is more than a sport, its a brotherhood, said Hendricks.

The wrestling team prepares for their upcoming match against Taylor County High School on Jan. 9. With the team as a whole in need of improving their rankings, the successes of individual members have demonstrated how hard each team member has been working to better their abilities, and with this sport already being time-consuming and challenging in itself, their efforts have been especially acknowledged. Wrestling is a very tough and demanding sport, which requires strong dedication and commitment, said wrestling coach Tom Wells.

One of the members of the wrestling team competes against a wrestler from Taylor County High School at a home match on Jan. 9. Although Bullitt East did not win the competition, each members participation further prepared them for the Regions and State tournaments in February, in which they are working towards becoming a champion in, by allowing them to realize their weaknesses and improve upon those during the remainder of the season. After each competition, we point out what the wrestlers do well and what mistakes each wrestler has to correct and work on, said the wrestling coach, Tom Wells.

A third KFC is attempted in Mount Washington, with its opening having been on Dec. 5. Its different location than the two previous ones was planned in hopes that this location would be the solution to traditional KFC failures in Mount Washington, but the two other KFCs most likely failed due to a lower population then. I would assume it would have a different outcome because we are more heavily populated now. Theres more neighborhoods coming in. I think we have a larger need to have more restaurants just to be able to support the growing population in the area. It should do better, said local citizen Kat Poole.

Social studies teacher Monty Edwards and his family used their musical talent to perform Sweet Child of Mine by Guns N Roses. Them, along with many other contestants sang for their performance. I think its really cool that Monty and his family came up to play a [mini] concert and I really liked it., said sophomore Billy Goodman.

This pin represents people who exercised their right to vote in the Bullitt County mid-term elections. The elections resulted in the selection of mainly Republican candidates to fill various Bullitt County offices. “As a democrat in a republican state, it’s definitely not what I was hoping for. It was what I expected, but I guess I was still holding on to a sliver of hope that potentially we could score some democrats in office,” said Bullitt East alumni, Kim Houchin.

The speech was intended to be one of the ways that Vice Principals Cyndi Bell and Tim Ridley could emphasize the importatance of veterans during the assembly. I visited the Philippines, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan and Hawaii all within my first eight months in the Navy at 18 years old, said Ballard.

Them, along with many candidates running for office in other counties that are part of Kentuckys second congressional district and are therefore subject to the general elections, are prepared to enforce achievable plans that will improve the conditions of their communities. Here is the second hall bathroom, proven to be a popular destination for juuling. These students have done so despite the risk of being caught by teachers who have recently been more intent on monitoring the bathrooms because of the issue. Smoking chemicals is not something that the faculty of the school supports. Were against it heavily, said Jonathan Huether.

Here is the most essential item needed for a game of golf. The girls golf team have used this and their raw talent to make it to the State Tournament. “The season went pretty good. There were bad days and good days, but golf is always fun that’s why I like it. This year it was more about doing my best but also having fun. I think I did well this season and so did everyone else,” said senior Alyssa Shepherd.

Here is Wendy McCutcheon, College and Career Readiness Director at Bullitt East, holding three helpful sources for students to become college- or career-ready or to explore their options regarding their college or career. This program aims to help students prepare for transitioning into whichever postsecondary education or career they choose, withstanding the new changes that have been made in Kentucky for the college and career readiness criteria. It used to be called college- and career-ready. Now it is academic transition-ready or career transition-ready. Transition meaning that they (the students) have fulfilled or they have demonstrated performance and knowledge that they will be able to transition, either into the workforce or into a postsecondary education, said McCutcheon.
