Robert Rahmeek Williams known as Meek Mill released his newest and one of the hottest albums of the year, DC4 (Dreamchaser 4) on October 28.

Before becoming a member of Rick Ross’s Maybach Music Group, Mill was a star MC in his hometown of Philadelphia. This 29-year-old hip hop and rap artist faced many legal issues in the past. Mill looks to continue his music while also having some heated feuds with other famous music artists.

He released a notable Flamerz series of mixtapes and singles like “Hottest in America,” Mill garnered the notice of T.I., who many speculated would sign the rapper to his Grand Hustle label. Signing to Maybach instead in early 2011, Mill appeared on the label’s compilation LP Self Made Vol. 1. His debut album, Dreams and Nightmares, was released in 2012. Mill founded Dream Chasers in 2012, which was his own record company. He signed artists like Louie V. Gutta, Lee Mazin and Goldie. In early 2013, he also signed 17-year-old Louisiana rapper Lil Snupe moments after hearing his demo. The label has since released mixtapes by Louie V. Gutta and Lil Snupe. On June 20, 2013, Dream Chasers artist Lil Snupe was murdered at an apartment building in Winnfield, Louisiana. The up-and-coming rapper was shot in the chest two times.  A warrant was issued for 36-year-old Tony Holden in connection with the shooting. Holden turned himself in to the police four days after the fatal shooting. Snupe and Mill would rap and produce music together and as a tribute to Snupe, Mill tweeted his video “Nobody,” with the message: “May you rest in peace/Forever a Dreamchaser.”

Mill was arrested for illegally possessing a firearm and assaulting the police when he was 18-years-old. Since then, he has been arrested four times for parole violation. According to vibe.com, in 2008, Mill was convicted of drug dealing and gun possession and was sentenced to 11 to 23 months in prison. Mill was released during the early portion of 2009 under a five-year parole agreement. In December 2012, Mill was found to have violated his probation and the judge revoked Mill’s travel permit.

DC4 is Mill’s newest and some think, his best album so far. “I love the album as a whole. But if I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be “Blue Notes.” It has a meaningful side to Meek’s usual aggressive tone,” said senior Kaleb Perdew. Mill teased his fans in July when he released a photo on this instagram where it showed him writing a playlist on a white board. The white board indicated that he was still in the process of making his album. The cover of his album is a portrait of the teenage Mill posing for a mugshot recreated out of his actual court documents.

DC4 has 14 tracks and has features from Nicki Minaj, Tory Lanez, Tracy T, Lil Uzi Vert, French Montana, 21 Savage, Lil Snupe and Quavo of Migos. “The people he collaborated with made some of the songs really good, for example Froze is a really good one,” said junior Robert Reiter.

Reaction varied on social media when Mill released DC4. “My initial reaction was relief. I was scared that if the album was a bust, Meek’s career would be over. Many believed that if the album lacked in having good public opinion, it would be the dagger that ended his career because of the mess with The Game and Drake,” said Perdew.

Mill has 5.8 million twitter followers and millions of fans all over the world. “My fandom of his music started in middle school when a friend of mine showed me him. It is funny, at first I hated his music. However, it began to grow on me and I slowly started to enjoy the music. His music has always had variety and that has been the factor keeping me there,” said Perdew.

DC4 has risen on the top charts on Itunes and Billboard’s. After three years since the last album DC3, Mill has released a new album that Itunes calls “anything but regular.” Listen to it now on Itunes, Spotify, Apple Music, or Youtube.
