The best of the best in the 24 district tournament was honored.

Two Lady Chargers softball players were recognized for their outstanding play last Tuesday against Jeffersontown.

Junior Karley Dawson and seventh grader Briley McBride were announced to the 2018 all district team. Both players played well in the district tournament. Both were recognized with the other all district tournament winners after the district championship game Wednesday night.

“I was thrilled and relieved to know that all the hours pitching in negative two degree weather actually paid off in the end. I was super happy because it was one of my goals I had set for myself this year,” said Dawson.

Dawson had a connection to the other all district award winners. “I grew up playing with most of the girls who received an award. They were awesome and totally deserved it,” said Dawson. Players from Mercy, Fern Creek, J-Town and Whitfield Academy were recognized.

Even though the Lady Chargers lost in the first game of districts to J-Town, Dawson pitched strong and kept the Lady Chargers in the game until the last inning when J-Town hit a walk off single. Dawson had multiple strikeouts in the game. She threw a total of 129 pitches. McBride had multiple hits and played good defense at second base for the Lady Chargers. She went 2-4 in the district game.

Congratulations to Dawson and McBride on the accomplishment and award!
