The team plays against Mercy at their second to last home game. They have been working hard on communication and taking shots at the goal. “We have improved a lot, we have a lot of young girls learning the intensity of varsity and as a team we have overcome conflicts and being able to understand each other.” Davenport said.

With the season coming to an end, the Lady Chargers are determined to make it to the championship.

The Lady Chargers started the week off strong with a 4-4 tie against Meade County. Three days later, they had a 5-0 win against county rival, North Bullitt. Finishing the week, they had a win against longtime rival Mercy Academy, with the final score being 1-0.

In the intense game against Meade County, the girls brought the score from 4-1 to 4-4 with less than ten minutes left in the second half. The comeback was very sudden and unexpected, as it was so late into the game. Goals were scored by Holly Higgs, Maddie Wheeler, and Beth Wheeler. Three days later the team played against a county rival, North Bullitt. The team had an impressive win of 5-0, with goals scored by Maddie Wheeler, Anna Tinelli, Beth Wheeler, Hailey Davenport, and Sophie Wilson.

The girls have been working hard to improve their skills but still have more progress to be seen. “I believe that we need to work on shots, we get carried up in dribbling around and miss our opportunities on the goal,” junior Hailey Davenport said.

Going into the game against Mercy, the team was confident that they were ready and prepared. They pulled through with a win of 1-0. The singular goal was scored by Savannah Mooney. “I was definitely nervous for the game, but all the hours we have put in preparing for this game our team is prepared,” senior Holly Higgs said. The team continued to play Kentucky Country Day on Sept. 28. They won their game 6-0, with goals scored by Hannah Rayhill, Valerie Lee, Ryan Burkett, and Higgs.

“We have improved a lot this season, as a team we have overcome conflicts and been able to understand each other, but now we are definitely ready for the championship,” Davenport said. After this strong week of wins, the team has the confidence and ability to come out with the championship.
