Bowling ball going into the pins under the numbers: 2021. The 2021 season for this year’s bowling team went pretty good, for senior Adam Young, in his opinion, for this being his last year on the team. “I’m going to miss competing in these kinds of tournaments, and playing with all these good kids. Im going to miss the team I played with, and grew around. This team means a lot to me, and Im happy I got to bowl with them, during my time on the team. I also want to thank coach Raley, for what he’s done for this team, and I want to thank him for being there, and just supporting us, along the way,” Young said.

A Season Like No Other

Mar. 5 would be the last normal game that this team would play together, before the regionals tournaments, and the state tournament. “Some things that have stuck out to me are who has come, and gone, and how we have improved and gained more people on the team, and the past two years being on the top of the region, and winning our regionals last year, and being runner up this year. Oh, and I can’t forget about the 300 bakers game we had last season. That was probably the one I look back at, the most,” Young said.

State Tournament, Here They Come

Still No Full Win

A lot of people expect me to do better, because we lost seniors last year; the two best players, last year. They expect me to step it up, and try to get it done, and that is what I’m going to try to do,” Young said.

Struggling With The New Way to Bowl

With this being his last season, it makes him upset that the COVID-19 pandemic has taken so much away. “I’m pretty upset about it, because I actually wanted to have a season this year, because it is my senior year, and now that we might get a season halfway into the school year, that sucks. I mean, we had a really good season last year. Happy about that one,” Young said.

The end of the final talk, after the team got eliminated from the state tournament. At the beginning of each event, and at the end of each event, for the team; the bowling team has a quick talk, puts their fists together, and then they lift their arms and go, “East!” “I’m hurting. Probably not hurting, as much as them, because I really wanted to see us accomplish bigger things, but that’s part of life,” said bowling coach Lenny Raley, “Yeah. Very, very proud (of the team). Again, things that may never be accomplished again, by most schools; I don’t know. To see a 300, was just absolutely phenomenal. So, when you win something, for the first time, it makes it special; winning the region. My first year is special to me. And then, being able to get here, and now, we and I know what it’s like, and everybody coming back knows what it’s like.”

The History-Making Bowling Team’s Season Is Officially Over

At the Louisville City Tournament, Jan. 11, 2020; Young, senior Logan Parrish, junior Adam Young, sophomore Austin Hale and freshman David Scholtz, played a bakers match, and made history, and scored a perfect game, with 12 strikes in a row. “I think it (getting the 300 game) was pretty cool, considering I was the last person to complete that 300; is very stressful, you know, going up there shaking, taking deep breaths, inhaling, exhaling, trying to calm myself down. You know, it‘s just, for me, I was surprised I was able to do it,” said Dylan Young.

The Best of the Best

The team of bowlers that bowled at the Regionals tournament. Jan. 27, the Regionals tournament for bowling was held, and after facing off against Doss High School, DeSales High School, Fairdale High School and finally North Bullitt High School, Bullitt East was declared the champion. “So, we did get it going against Doss. Kids were a little tight against DeSales, but man, they took care of business, and once we did that, I felt like we had a really good chance to qualify for the state tournament, and win the region. Fairdale gave us everything that we could handle, but we just came out on top, by just a little, and then North Bullitt, we had pretty well handled them this season, and I feel like our confidence was very high, against them,” said bowling coach Lenny Raley, “Dylan (Young), all season long, has just been the anchor, and I call him, ‘The ice-man,’ because he has ice in his veins, and it doesn’t affect him. You know, he’s just solid; ice is solid, and he is solid. So, I’m just smiling thinking about it, and I’m very happy for our kids.”

The Bullitt East Bowling Team Gets Spot In The State Tournament

Junior David Boyer and junior Zachary Compton bowling at the Unified Regionals tournament. Boyer, Compton, sophomore Austin Hale and senior Dylan Young bowled as two separate teams, at the Unified Regionals tournament, and Compton and Hale actually ended up winning the whole tournament. “I have a tender spot for those kind of kids. You know, our school is highly recognized as one of the top schools in the United States for being involved with unified programs, and so, really two good kids. David is very high strong and got a lot of energy; loud and a lot of school spirit. And Zach’s kind of the opposite; really quiet, and doesn’t say a lot. But they’re both great kids. They did a really good job bowling,” said bowling coach Lenny Raley, “So, I’m proud of Bullitt East, for offering it and being allowed to have them out there representing our school and community and they did a fantastic job today.”

Bullitt East Wins Unified Regionals Tournament

All bowlers experienced their last match of this season, with a win, Jan. 15, against Moore High School. “I mean, I love bowling, it’s like one of my passions. It’s just something that I seem to be pretty good at, and it just sucks that I won’t be able to bowl with my team again,” said Young.

Moments right before senior Dylan Young bowled the twelfth and final strike, determining if they got the 300, of the 300 match. Jan. 11, was the day that Bullitt East High School made history, in the Louisville City Tournament, with the team scoring a 300. “I think it went pretty well. Considering that we went to the semi-finals, and got a 300 in one of our matches. I’d say we did pretty well,” said Young.
