Between test and extra studying, the last week before break feels more like a marathon than a holiday.
As the semester wraps up, students say the week before break is full of tests, stress, and long nights of studying.
As the semester comes to an end, high school students are experiencing the pressure of finals week right before Christmas break. Between studying for tests, keeping up with regular assignments, and participating in sports or other activities, many students say the week is hectic and stressful. Some feel prepared and ready for the test others dread it, worried about their grades dropping before the break.
For many students, the most stressful part of finals week is worrying about grades while still trying to keep up with everyday responsibilities. Students say the pressure increases when they have to juggle studying with sports, other classes, and getting enough sleep, which can make the week feel exhausting and nonstop. “I stress about my grades dropping while trying to get through sports and still getting enough sleep every night,” Presley Robinson said.
To prepare for finals week, students rely heavily on studying and getting enough rest. Many say they spend extra time reviewing notes and trying to stay organized so they do not fall behind as the test approaches. “I study a lot, and I try to get good sleep so I don’t feel exhausted.” Even when students feel confident, some continue to study just in case. This extra effort helps them feel more prepared and less anxious going into finals week. “I felt well prepared because I studied a lot, and even when I thought I was ready, I still studied again,” Presley says.
Despite preparing, many students still dread finals week. Fear of being unprepared or seeing grades drop can take away excitement for the upcoming break. Even with hours of studying and careful planning, the fear of forgetting important information. The pressure of everything often leaves students feeling overwhelmed and anxious.“ I dread finals because I worry I won’t be prepared, and I don’t want it to lower my grades,” Presley Robinson said.
