Vincent Steps Down

All good things must have come to an end.

After posting a record of 29-28 in 5 seasons as head football coach, Darrell Vincent has decided to step down from his position.

Vincent has decided to step down because of family matters and for the opportunity of exploring more administrative positions within Bullitt East. The team is still confident and look to make strides toward next season. The person next in line for the job is still questionable as of now.

After spending nearly two decades as a part of the football program, Vincent has decided to step down to pursue new teaching and administrative opportunities. Opportunities that require a lot of traveling and time, time of which he can not spend coaching the football team.

Vincent said, “Well, I’ve been thinking about for the past couple years, part of it is that I want to work on my administrative certificate because I got about 8 or 9 years left, and you know I’ve been talking to different people like Mr. Mason[BE assistant principal]. Being a coach for 20 years, and then after their football season last year, that’s when he became assistant principal here. We were just talking about it and I just want to spend more time with my family.”

It’s upsetting to see someone who has worked for the program for so long part ways, but the team is still confident and they look to make progress for next season.

Junior linebacker and running back, Justin Defler said, “We [the football team] are all kind of upset because we know he has been coaching and has been a part of this program for over 15 years, but we are all excited for the season and ready to get to work to make improvements and prepare for a great season.”

Junior quarterback, Zak Kessler said, “I’m just focused on this year right now, and depending on how it goes[who gets the coaching position] we will see from there on out.”

The next question for this situation is who will take the role of leading the Chargers next season. As of right now, the job is open and anyone can apply for the position.

When asked if he knew of any candidates for the job, Defler said, “No, but I am confident that Troy Barr[athletic director] and Mr. Foster[BE principal] will select the candidate that best fits this program and will guide us through a great season.”

Barr said, “I do not [on knowing of any candidates right now], we will go through the typical way like any other coach, we’ll post the position and people will apply, we will look at resumes, we will conduct interviews, and then we will determine who it’s going to be.”

Vincent said, “I know there are some guys on staff that are going to apply, any of those guys would be awesome to me, but I just hope they find somebody that cares as much about football as they do Bullitt East and this community.”
