Houses for the Holidays

Tis’ the season for another assembly.

Last Friday was the Houses for Holidays assembly.

The assembly was full of all sorts of surprises and events intended to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.

The choir got the assembly started by singing a Christmas carol. It was immediately followed by Robert Troutman in a Buddy the Elf costume from the movie Elf, which senior Noah Wilson said was the best part of the assembly, “I know he doesn’t care, but we all got a good laugh out of it.”

April Walker who is a social studies teacher, presented the Heart of Bullitt East awards, one to a faculty member, one to a staff member, and one to a student. The winners of the awards were Ms. Speakman, Ms. Wendy, and senior Brooke Stivers. “Winners received the award based on their ability to do it the Charger Way on a daily basis, that they are a positive influence within the school, and have involved themselves in multiple facets within the school,” said Walker.

That was followed by the ugly sweater show where two people from each house walked around the gym showing off their ugly Christmas sweaters.

The lip-sync contest in which two different houses lip-synced the same song and then the crowd voted with amount of applause. This was done in a tournament fashion until they had a winner, house Augmentum.

Towards the end of the assembly, all the houses joined together at an attempt to sing “The Twelve Days of Christmas.”

When asked how he felt about the assembly, Wilson said, “Overall they did a good job of getting students out of class and getting them into the Christmas spirit. It gives us a little motivation to finish out the semester,” he continued “ it was definitely better than the last assembly humor wise. In the end it all comes down to student participation. If the students don’t participate and have fun there isn’t much they can do. Like when Troutman had to go out and lip sync for a house. That wouldn’t happen if everyone would participate.”

Overall houses for the holidays was a great way to gather the students together and get them ready to finish the semester strong.
