Shooting Forward

The archery team faced a tough meet once again.

Even though the ability is there, the team continues to struggle to compete to the best of their ability. Again this week, nerves have been getting in the way of the shooter’s concentration. The team is preparing for next weekends big meet at Bullitt Central.

Lexi Nation, senior archer, said, “This weekend we definitely didn’t compete up to what we can. We really are capable of beating Bullitt Central this year; we aren’t a second place team. Our past seasons we have been undefeated, and we can do it again this year.”

Last week, senior Will Spencer commented on the weaknesses of the team, the main one being anxious while shooting. This seems to be a common pattern this season, and Nation agreed. “Our team really needs to focus on performance, scoring, and target anxiety. We have way too many good shooters that just don’t perform as well at tournaments under the pressure, but shoot exceptional at practice,” said Nation.

Next weekend, the archery team will really put their skills to the test. County rival Bullitt Central will host a meet on Saturday, February 4. In great spirits, Nation said, “This upcoming weekend at Bullitt Central you can expect East to give Central a run for their money, because we are coming for their first place trophy.” Good luck to the team this weekend.
