Bop, bop, bop, bop to the top.

The BE dance team made a good impression as they prepare for Feb. 18 in Frankfort.

They participated on Jan. 21 in a competition. As a team, they performed well, as well as some dancers winning in the solo division. The dancers are proud of how well they competed.

The competition was called the Top Hat competition 2017 and was held at Presentation Academy. This particular competition has been held for several years.

As a team, the East dancers placed first in their division. They had some dancers that won in solo divisions as well. Scoring is done electronically, but initially, the judges score and total on a paper sheet. Then they use the computer database to store and rank the participants. At the end, the coaches are each given the printout of all participants and scores/rank.

The dancers who won in solo divisions were sophomore Elisa Spencer and sophomore Shelby Osbourne. Spencer, who won her junior jazz solo, said, “It’s really exciting because you won with your own ability and without your teammates help.”

“We’ve worked so hard to be where we are now and I’m so proud of the dance team. They are my family and I’m so lucky to have them,” said senior Brae Fredericks.

Looking forward, these girls are hoping to improve even more so that they can perform well at their next competition.
