The band is ending the season on a good note.

With their last competition taking place on Nov. 17, the bands’ season has come to an end.

Throughout the past few months, the band has had a successful year. Hard work and preparation has led to their earning of several high placing titles. With the bands increasing talent, there is a lot to look forward to next season as well.

The band’s most successful competition this year took place in Mason, Ohio at William Mason High School. “I think it was the best overall because we won the competition and it was a reward for the student’s hard work for the season. The end of the season crowned everything we put into it,” said Ervin.

Although the band makes performances look effortless, lots of hard work goes into their numerous successes. A typical week during their season consists of practices three times a week for three hours each as well as competitions on Saturdays that last the entire day. On top of that, when it’s football season, an extra 3 hours is spent after school on Fridays not counting the time it takes to perform at the football games. “You put in four weeks of your summer break and all of fall break. Plus, you also practice every day after school for three hours. It is worth it because you all work towards the same goal,” said band member, Kevin Zygmunt.

One well-known fact about the band is how hardworking they are. “I think the band lived up to the hardworking standards, especially with the cards they were dealt. This season was really rough because there were a lot of things the students and I could not control that we had to overcome to be successful,” said Ervin.

One major setback that the band experienced this year was having to deal with their uniform company going bankrupt halfway through the season. As a result of this, they were left trying to tie up all of those loose ends of not having uniforms. Every regular season contest except for one was not in uniform for us. That was not fun, however, because we work hard we were able to overcome those things. I told the kids all season you can’t control what you can’t control. When you’re prepared no matter what happens you’re going to be okay,” said Ervin

The band achieved their goal this season by reaching their maximum potential. “I think we achieved our main goal by the end we were definitely the best we could be. As the season goes on, the student potential goes up. As the students get better throughout the season, my standards for them go up higher and higher,” said Ervin.

With the continuous growth of the band every year, there is a lot to look forward to. “We just did a recruiting tour at the middle schools and that went really well. A lot of kids are now really excited for marching band. It’s all about growth both in achievement and size of the program,” said Ervin. The band has lots in store for them in the upcoming year.
