Girls Golf Weekly Recap

The girl’s golf team always ensures they get their weekly dose of iron.

Players have spent a lot of time working on their swings and making sure their practice time is enough.

The team’s most recent match was held at Quail Chase, Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019. Player’s scores were consistent, although some feel their performance was not up to par. Senior Abi Huffman faced lots of challenges throughout the match and even now throughout practices, after suffering a back injury.

“I had quite a big set back last match by severely hurting my back. I’m still working with that, with practicing and trying to cut down as many strokes as possible,” said Huffman.

With an upcoming practice this Wednesday, the girls are looking forward to getting a chance to improve before the two-day match Sept. 9 and 10. The match will be split into nine holes a day. Some players are heading to the green on their own time as well in preparation.

“What I’m going to do is go out three to four times this week to play nine or 18 holes or go to the range,” said sophomore Alayna Wells.

Although team practices are only once a week or less, the girls can still see improvement in their plays. As in every sport, they are always setting goals and expectations for themselves and those may be hard to attain but nevertheless, they remain in high spirits.

“I’ve only been out since the match that I did terrible in, so from that, not much improvement. But in general yes I have improved a lot, and practices go great,” said Wells.
