Swinging into the season

Bullitt East High School’s softball team is ready for a fresh start this upcoming season. They have many goals to accomplish and things to improve on, but they also have many things they can look forward to.

One main goal for the team is to make it back to the state championships. “We had made it to state last year for the first time, and I think it was like thirteen years, so I think making it back to state is a big goal of ours,” Katlyn McDonald said.

People on the team also have their own personal goals. One player, Mollie Johnston, hopes to help the younger players so they are ready for the future. “Help the younger ones so when I leave, they are able to know what to do,” Johnston said.

Along with these goals, the team has a few ideas to figure out how they can improve as a whole, starting with communication. “I think just, um, communication in a way, because we have a lot of returning players, but we also have a lot of new players that are going to step up and fill in the roles of the three seniors from last year. So I think just the mutual communication between the returners and the new players,” McDonald said.

Another improvement the team wants to see is more positivity. Having a positive attitude can help players not to give up if something goes wrong. “I can improve on like positivity, like always staying up, and whenever I, if I make a mistake, staying up instead of getting down on myself,” Alivia Cooper said.

Players are very excited for the upcoming games, especially with this team. “I just think that we have a great group of players who all like each other. We play like sisters,” Cooper said.
