292 days since the final game of the 2025 season, now a new chapter is set to begin.
Opening day for Bullitt East Baseball’s 2026 season is right around the corner. Between the underclassmen and 12 seniors, the brotherhood is a defining factor in what makes this team great. Since the offseason began, the Chargers have been working as one unit, between continuous repetitions in the weight room and cage drills, and are hungry for a strong season.
“I’ve worked really hard in the weight room to get where I’m at now along with gaining trust from the coaches,” senior catcher Dylan Haas said.
Haas has benefited from all the lessons throughout his career, such as not overreacting to the little things. During practice, drills like blocking, receiving, and framing are essential for successful games and his athletic development. Reflecting on his journey wearing “East” around his chest, his proudest moment dates back to his sophomore year when he got dogpiled on after securing a game-winning bunt. Before games, his key motivation is the knowledge of the fact that everything that he does is for Christ. In addition, prior to entering the field, he draws a cross as a sentimental reminder of what his purpose is behind each play.
“We all have a lot of fight in us and, with our brotherhood, we’re definitely very close on and off the field,” senior catcher Channing Bibelhauser said.
A game Bibelhaser is looking forward to is when the team hosts North Bullitt on April 28 because it’s always a fun, heated rivalry. In terms of how he plays, his confidence in himself has grown as he has gained more experience since freshman year. His favorite memory with the team goes back to last season when they beat PRP 3-2 at home.
“With me playing in college next season, that pushes me to go to the next level when it comes to running, the weight room, cages, and fields,” senior outfielder Hunter Holland said.
Committed to continue his career in Morristown, Tenn. at Walter State Community College, Holland is focusing on his work ethic and consistency. As a role model who is setting the example for the underclassmen, he teaches them how to elevate their game to the next level and battle through adversity. Looking ahead into life after college, he imagines either playing professional baseball or pursuing a career in firefighting or real estate.
Bullitt East will host Fern Creek on Monday, March 16 at 6:00p.m. for the season opener. With a roster consisting of leadership and experience, the Chargers are determined to make it back to Jim Patterson Stadium, with the common goal of bringing home the program’s first state title.
