This is Molly Shannon. She is a sophomore and junior creative editor in the Journalism program at Bullitt East High School. Once she graduates, she hopes to major in Journalism, which is why she joined the class this year. Outside of journalism, she is also a part of a club known as Project Unify.

Lady Leaders from Bullitt East gathered to take a picture alongside their mentors. These girls were notified about their involvement with the conference last month and have been preparing for it ever since, now that the conference has passed they are now looking for ways to improve for the one in March. We have our first Bullitt County Lady leaders Conference Day on Friday, Sept. 20. Anytime you doing something for the first time, there are always areas to improve for the next time so our Bullitt County Lady Leaders team will make a plan to address those areas and be ready for our next conference day which is March 20, said Adrienne Usher.

Trevor Swearingen has been teaching at Bullitt East for a little over a month and has already made himself home in a classroom that he and Lauren Battcher share. During his time here he has gone all out to show school spirit and that he cares for his students. I always loved to study as a kid and I used to read these flashcards that had these informational facts on them and I would like teach a class and so I thought I wasnt teaching at the time, I thought I was like being a broadcaster. Deep down I always wanted to be a teacher, ever since college I knew that I wanted to educate, inspire, inform and entertain, said Swearingen.

Losing the tournament was a bittersweet moment because the girls worked together as a team but it was almost as if their hard work didnt pay off. Alayna Wells and Shelby Hatter are now better prepared for future tournaments. I won my match by a lot which doesnt happen a lot so I was really proud of myself, said Wells.

Members of one of the sophomore girls teams for tug-of-war express their determination to win this competition while students cheer them on from the side during the annual Greek Games on May 2. The tug-of-war competitions comprised much of the time devoted to activities that the Games featured, in which students utilized their aggressiveness to try to assert their dominance over other grade levels, while many students inversely chose not to participate to avoid being subordinated for the same reasons. Freshmen are new and want to save face. Sophomores and juniors are jaded and want to keep their image. They tend to hold themselves in high regard and dont want to embarrass themselves, said band teacher Trevor Ervin.

After the teacher protests for pension reforms last year teachers came back with shirts and sticks saying that they love their public school. Although this years protests are over something different, this still applies to how teachers feel. We first arrived and congregated in the rotunda with hundreds of fellow teachers chanting and cheering. It was very powerful. Many of the politicians who support teachers and public education made their way to us; they were greeted with cheers and applause. They then spoke directly to the crowd showing their appreciation and support for both our presence that day and what we do every day in the classroom. It felt good to be acknowledged, said Craven.

After the singing of various choirs and the parade, citizens gather to watch the lighting of multiple Christmas trees and nearby buildings. Once everything was lit, fireworks were set off. The elections resulted in the selection of mainly Republican candidates to fill various Bullitt County offices. “As a democrat in a republican state, it’s definitely not what I was hoping for. It was what I expected, but I guess I was still holding on to a sliver of hope that potentially we could score some democrats in office,” said Bullitt East alumni, Kim Houchin.

Wendy McCutcheons old office in the College and Career Center is now empty after she has packed up all of her things and left. This office was her home away from home for eight years and it will soon be the office of Ann Mann. The nature of the College and Career Coach job is one that changes all the time. Every week (it seems like), the state changes a pathway or the requirements to become college ready. Ms. Ann Murphy has been hired as Wendys replacement and will do an excellent job, said guidance counselor Dana Steinmetz.

Here is Wendy McCutcheon, College and Career Readiness Director at Bullitt East, holding three helpful sources for students to become college- or career-ready or to explore their options regarding their college or career. This program aims to help students prepare for transitioning into whichever postsecondary education or career they choose, withstanding the new changes that have been made in Kentucky for the college and career readiness criteria. It used to be called college- and career-ready. Now it is academic transition-ready or career transition-ready. Transition meaning that they (the students) have fulfilled or they have demonstrated performance and knowledge that they will be able to transition, either into the workforce or into a postsecondary education, said McCutcheon.
