The Humana Building was closed down in February 2024, and its employees were moved to the renovated building on North Brook Street. They did it so they could cut costs down because not many people were working in the building, and most people were online. They are turning that building into a convention center hotel. Construction begins in 2027 and will last around 3-4 years.
They are calling this building a “world-class” hotel. The cost to build it is around $600-$700 million. They are adding a smaller building next to it to add onto it. There will be about 1,000 rooms, 100,000 square feet of meeting space, and 40,000 square feet of grand ballroom. This was made to attract big events and conventions to be held.
It will be right in the middle of it all. It will be great for Main Street and Market Street walking access from the hotel. They want to use it as somewhere people visiting the city can go to, that’s right in the middle of the city, so they don’t have to worry about transportation, and they can see everything. It helps with traffic in the city, with new people coming in big groups. They can just walk and have foot traffic instead. Which is so much better for the city as a look and the plant. It’s a great spark for the restaurants and buildings right there, too, especially the small ones that didn’t have much recognition before.
There will be a lot of people flowing there and new people to the city or visitors just looking for quick meals in between meetings or their convention. It will bring the city of Louisville into the light more and make people wanna visit more and just get our name out there, not just for sports, but it will help with that too. Also, it can be used for people to be able to visit concerts hosted here.
